The City of Hampton is hosting Cities United's 6th Annual National Convening August 20 - 23. Cities United supports mayors and their teams to create, implement, evaluate, and sustain comprehensive public safety plans. Their convening joins all those committed to their mission of reducing the homicide and shooting deaths of young black men and boys, ages 14 - 24 by 50 percent by 2025.
As the host city, they are tasked with coordinating site tours that highlight the work being done by organizations whose work restores hope and builds pathways to justice, employment and education to create safe, healthy and hopeful communities. Hampton University the Promise Program shares these values. In addition, the evidence-based model uses cultural strengths to reduce homicide rates for African American young men. Tours will take place on Wednesday, August 21, between the hours of 10am and 3:30pm, but they will not run hourly. The morning tour is attended by Mayors and Cities United Advisory Board Members and the afternoon tour is for convening attendees.
