Yesterday's MANDATORY Safety Briefing did not get the type of support anticipated. There were only 155 freshmen students in attendance out of an estimated 964 registered for the 2015-2016 academic school year. Of those students in attendance, several students left the briefing early. There are some who contend that the annual safety briefings "are not that important," and should be optional. But, such is far from the truth. Universities and Colleges across this nation are mandated by the Jeanne Clery Act to inform their student/faculty and staff bodies of how to report sex offenses to whom they must report such behaviors. It is my hopes, in moving forward, that more would appreciate the efforts that go into keeping the university community well-informed and attend the annual safety briefings.
